Maine Center for Creativity relaunched in 2016 our signature Art All Around initiative with a reimagined vision and focus.
Since its founding in 2005, MCC’s highest profile project has been the transformation of the Sprague Energy oil terminal in South Portland into the world’s largest public art painting. Dubbed “Art All Around,” this project brought together a range of disconnected partners to celebrate and inspire a community’s creativity, and called national and international attention to Maine.
Today, Maine communities increasingly look to art as a way to engage the public and reimagine their futures. Art All Around was relaunched in 2016 as a statewide program, starting in Westbrook, to help channel artistic and community energy to bring people together, spark economic development and draw attention and visitors back to downtowns statewide.
Art All Around brought more than 200 people, 15 local organizations – including non-profits, schools, local businesses and the city administration – together to create thousands of artifacts and transform part of Westbrook’s downtown with a temporary art installation in August 2016. The effort showed what happens when a whole community makes art. Magic!

Support a culture of art across Maine!
Art All Around is an ongoing program of collaborative community art making that mobilizes community members of all ages to transform public spaces across the state every summer. Work is already underway again in Westbrook, and we will announce soon our other 2017-18 program communities.
In order to keep the momentum going strong and create something truly spectacular in 2017, we are actively seeking donations. Please make your gift today to help build new connections in our communities, engage and empower young people, celebrate local identity and show off the remarkable creativity that exists in all of Maine’s cities and towns!
We are proud to partner with the following Westbrook organizations:
CAFE, Inc. (Choices Are For Everyone), Congin School/PTO, Downtown Westbrook Coalition, Ethos|VONT, Frog & Turtle Gastro Pub, My Place Teen Center, Que Sera Sera Recycled Art, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, Westbrook/Gorham Chamber of Commerce, Westbrook Fiber Arts, Westbrook Middle School, Westbrook Community Center/Westbrook LEARNS, Woodfords Family Services, and the City of Westbrook. We couldn’t make Art All Around a reality without their support and we welcome additional community partners.
